HC Deb 03 May 1909 vol 4 c718
Mr. WATT

asked the Lord Advocate whether his attention has been called to the irregularities of procedure in the Dundee Sheriff Court; whether he is aware that complaints of these irregularities have been repeatedly forwarded to the Scottish Office and to his Department by solicitors practising in that court; and whether, in view of the fact that traders in that district are suffering loss through actual breaches of the Debts Recovery Act in that court, he will take any action?

Mr. URE

I am aware of the complaints in question, which were carefully inquired into; but the Secretary for Scotland, as advised, was not prepared to take any further action in the matter. I am not aware that any actual breaches of the Debts Recovery Act have occurred.

Mr. WATT

May I ask whether in view of the fact that traders in the district are suffering losses through actual breaches of the Debts Recovery Act, he will £take any action in the matter?

Mr. URE

The Solicitor-General for Scotland, after inquiry, is not prepared to take any further action in the matter. I am not aware that any actual breaches of the Act have occurred.
