HC Deb 30 March 1909 vol 3 cc176-7
Mr. CLELAND

asked the Lord Advocate whether the Scottish Office had lodged any application with the Treasury for a portion of the grant for the relief of the unemployed; if so, what is the amount of such sum; whether the Treasury has sanctioned such amount or a portion thereof; if so, what is the amount allocated to the distress committee of the city of Glasgow; and what was the amount actually advanced to the same distress committee during the corresponding period of last year?

Mr. BARNES

also asked the Lord Advocate if the Scottish Office has yet lodgod an application with the Treasury for a portion of the grant for the relief of the unemployed, and, if so, what is the amount of such sum; whether the Treasury has sanctioned such amount or a portion thereof; and, if so, what is the amount allocated to the distress committee of the city of Glasgow?

Mr. URE

I will reply to my hon. Friend and to the hon. Member for the Blackfriar's Division at the same time. An application has been lodged, but as communications in the matter are still passing between the Scottish Office and the Treasury, I am not in a position to state the final amount allocated to Glasgow. I may add that the total grant to Glasgow in respect of the year ending 15th May, 1908, was £9,647, and that up to date in the current year £24,200 has already been paid to the Glasgow Distress Committee.

Mr. MUNRO-FERGUSON

Can the hon. Member make any statement shortly as to the amount of the grant?

Mr. URE

Yes, Sir; this week.
