HC Deb 30 March 1909 vol 3 cc185-6
Mr. GODFREY BARING

asked the Prime Minister if he can now state when it is proposed to take the second reading of the Houses of Parliament Bill?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am afraid that I cannot yet name a date for the second reading of this Bill; but, as I informed the House yesterday, I hope to be able to make a statement on Thursday in regard to public business for next week and the week after the recess.

Mr. BYLES

Will the Prime Minister kindly say whether there is any way, apart from the passing of this Bill, of getting the galleries re-opened? Will he explain why it was so easy to get the public out and so difficult to get them in again?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am afraid I cannot explain it. I am afraid that the only way of getting the galleries opened is by passing this Bill, and I hoped that it would have been taken by general consent.
