HC Deb 29 March 1909 vol 3 cc23-4
Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the President of the Local Government Board why the claim for an old age pension made by William Bothwell, New Hartley, Seaton Delaval, had been refused; if the reason was that he had had his home out of the United Kingdom for some period of the last 20 years, would he state if the Board were aware of the fact that during the two years he was in Australia he kept his home in this country, and regularly sent remittances for the maintenance of that home; and would the claim be reconsidered in view of the fact stated?

Mr. BURNS

The claimant in this case admitted being absent from the United Kingdom from August, 1888, to 1900. As his absence during the last 20 years exceeded eight years, the question whether he had a home in the United Kingdom was immaterial.
