HC Deb 29 March 1909 vol 3 c25
Mr. WEIR

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he was aware that the deer forest of Rhidorrach, Ross and Cromarty, with an acreage of 39,000, was assessed at £l,350, whereas the forest of Dundonnell, in the same county, with an acreage of 37,000, was assessed at only £500; and, seeing that there were three million acres of deer forest lands in the Highland crofting counties which might afford assistance to the Imperial exchequer, would he consider the expediency of inquiring on what principle they were assessed, with a view to the establishment of some more equitable system of assessment?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hobhouse)

My right hon. Friend is inquiring into the matter.
