HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 c1589
Mr. CHIOZZA-MONEY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if his attention has been directed to proposals which have been made to establish waiting rooms for children on licensed premises; and whether, having regard to the intention of this House, expressed in the Children Act, to keep children out of public-houses, he intends to take any action in the matter?

The HOME SECRETARY (Mr. Gladstone)

My attention has not been drawn to the proposal mentioned in the question, but I would point out that the Children Act prohibits only the presence of children in an open drinking bar or any part of licensed premises exclusively or mainly used for the sale and consumption of intoxicating liquors.

Mr. CHIOZZA-MONEY

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether, if these proposals which have been made are put, into practice, he will immediately introduce legislation to prevent children being taken into public-houses at all?

Mr. GLADSTONE

I have already said that I do not know to what proposals my hon. Friend has alluded.
