HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 cc844-5
Mr. RUPERT GUINNESS

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether there are any Returns as to the number of persons in London suffering from trachoma; and whether he has any official information showing that this disease exists almost exclusively among aliens born abroad?

Mr. BURNS

I am not aware of any Returns of the number of persons in London suffering from trachoma, but I have no reason to suppose that it is considerable. From the Reports of the Medical Officer for Education of the London County Council, I gather that the disease is very rare amongst school children, and almost entirely confined to children of alien birth.
