HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 cc838-9
Mr. PIKE PEASE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he can now state the name of the Norwegian firm preparing the granite for use at Rosyth; whether the Admiralty have been furnished with specimens of the stone to be supplied; and the results of any tests made by the Admiralty officials?

Mr. McKENNA

The name of the firm who will prepare the granite for use at Rosyth is not known to the Admiralty. No samples have yet been furnished, and consequently no tests have been made.

Mr. PIKE PEASE

Is the contract cancelled then?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir; the contract is between the contractors and the Norwegian granite owners. Whether that contract has been made or not I cannot say.

Mr. FELL

Are any samples to be delivered at all for testing purposes until the actual granite is sent over?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir; until the contract is made and the granite ordered by the contractors no samples will be sent to us. They will be sent and tested.

Mr. FELL

Before the granite is delivered?

Mr. McKENNA

That is obvious.
