HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 cc847-8
Mr. PATRICK WHITE

asked the Home Secretary how many applications were received by the London police authorities during the year ending December, 1908, from hotel and restaurant keepers, and from other sources, for permission to allow people engaged in social or other functions to remain on licensed premises after closing hours; and how many were refused?

Mr. GLADSTONE

If, as I presume, the hon. Member refers to exemptions from the provisions relating to the closing of licensed premises which are granted on special occasions under section 29 of the Licensing Act, 1872, the figures are, for the Metropolitan Police district: Applications, 2,893; refusals, 88; and for the City of London: Applications, 135; refusals, 2.
