HC Deb 22 July 1909 vol 8 c607
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the serious explosion in a purifying box that took place at Hanley Gas Works on Monday, the 19th instant; if so, whether he can state what was the last time the same purifying box was emptied, and how long the lid of the box had been lifted before the men were ordered into the box to work; and whether the Board of Trade are prepared to thoroughly investigate the matter?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Gladstone)

I beg to answer this question on behalf of my right hon. Friend. I am making inquiry into the accident referred to, and will inform the hon. Member of the result.
