HC Deb 21 July 1909 vol 8 c503
Captain CRAIG

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the submarines originally moored off the Houses of Parliament have been removed because they grounded at low water; and, if so, can he state by whose orders they were assigned such a position?

Mr. McKENNA

They were removed and subsequently replaced. They take no harm in grounding. They were ordered there by the Admiralty. They were removed on the first night as a matter of precaution by the officer in charge, as he had some doubt that they might swing foul of each other if they floated at different times, owing to the unevenness of the depth.
