HC Deb 21 July 1909 vol 8 c516
Mr. PATRICK WHITE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that residents at Dublin hotels licensed for the sale of alcoholic drinks are precluded by police regulations from receiving a visit from a friend, on business or other matters, during the hours for which the sale of intoxicating liquors is prohibited; will he say by whose authority those regulations were issued; and whether he is aware that those restrictions, depriving residents from business or social intercourse with their customers or friends except during limited hours, are calculated to injuriously affect the business of licensed hotel keepers, upon whom the Chancellor of the Exchequer proposes to place additional burdens?

Mr. BIRRELL

I am informed by the police authorities that there are no police regulations curtailing the facilities allowed by law to residents in hotels for seeing their friends during closing hours.
