§ Mr. BOTTOMLEYasked the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called to a regulation of the allotments committee of the Tonbridge Council prohibiting gardening on Sundays other than the cutting of vegetables; whether this regulation has received the sanction of the Local Government Board; and, if not, whether he proposes to make any representation to the council upon the matter?
§ Sir E. STRACHEYI understand that a majority of the Tonbridge Urban District Council recently voted in favour of a rule prohibiting Sunday gardening other than the cutting of vegetables on the allotments provided by the council, but the rule has not as yet been submitted to us, and it cannot be brought into operation without the approval of the Board. It has not been the practice to approve any rule of the kind.
