HC Deb 14 July 1909 vol 7 cc2023-4
Lord ROBERT CECIL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the Government will put on the Paper the Amendment to the Finance Bill exempting small owners of land from the Increment Duty and also that exempting all small increments of 10 or 15 per cent. from duty; and which clauses will they affect? In putting this question, I might say that that part of it dealing with small increments, 10 or 15 per cent., no longer applies now, because the matter was dealt with last night.

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The Amendment relating to increment values not exceeding 10 per cent. was considered by the Committee yesterday. As regards small owners of land, my right hon. Friend proposes to place an Amendment on the Paper shortly. The first-mentioned Amendment is an Amendment to Clause 3 of the Bill; the second will form a new clause.

Lord ROBERT CECIL

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what "shortly" exactly means?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

It is impossible to say, but it will really be shortly.
