HC Deb 12 July 1909 vol 7 c1634
Mr. FELL

asked if, before selling the land at Bembridge for £700 which cost the War Office £1,500, he communicated with the Admiralty and other Government Departments to see whether the land in question would be useful for some other Government purpose at the present time or in the near future?

Mr. HALDANE

Yes, Sir. The Admiralty, which was the only other Department likely to be concerned, was consulted.

Mr. FELL

Was any inquiry made as to whether this was the normal price?

Mr. HALDANE

We got the best price we could.

Mr. ARTHUR LEE

Will the right hon. Gentleman grant a Return of the number of cases in which the War Office sold land in tile last four years?

Mr. HALDANE

If the hon. Member puts that question down I will answer him. There may be some reason for not granting a Return that I am not aware of; otherwise we ought to be able to grant it.
