HC Deb 12 July 1909 vol 7 cc1639-40
Mr. KAVANAGH

Can the right hon. Gentleman inform me how much of the Irish Development Grant goes at present to meet the deficiency in respect of the issue of stock at a discount for the purpose of land purchase; what amount of the grant will be released by the passing of the Land Bill (Clause 6); will the grant have to bear any of the deficiency in future; and, if so, to what extent in any one year will it be charged; and whether there is any mortgage on it for the deficiency already incurred?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The sum of £138,700 is allocated in the Ireland Development Grant Estimate for 1909–10 (Class VII., Vote 4) to meet charges for deficiency in respect of the issue of stock at a discount for the purpose of land purchase. No part of the grant will be set free from liability for such charges by the Irish Land Bill of this Session, any further deficiency resulting from the further issue of stock at a discount being met out of the Development Grant, until that grant is exhausted, and thereafter out of moneys provided by Parliament.
