HC Deb 07 July 1909 vol 7 c1200
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked the Secretary of State for War whether orders have been issued to prevent the same horses being used for the training of more than one Yeomanry regiment or whether the same horses may be hired out to different regiments without restriction during the year?

Mr. WHITLEY

No orders of the nature referred to have been issued. There is no restriction as to the number of regiments to which horses may be hired out for training during the year. As the hon. and gallant Member is aware, active steps are being taken to complete a scheme for the provision of an adequate supply of horses on mobilisation.

Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

May the House take it that the same horses may be used for several regiments, and, consequently, that we have a paper army?

Mr. WHITLEY

The House must not take more than I have said.

Mr. ASHLEY

Can the hon. Gentleman state, in the event of war, whether or not these yeomen will have to fight on foot?
