HC Deb 07 July 1909 vol 7 cc1191-2
Mr. REES

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that in certain cases the undeveloped ½d. will amount to an annual tax of more than the actual rental of land which, owing to circumstances, cannot be used for building and upon which only an agricultural rent can be secured; and, if so, what action the Government proposes to take in respect of such land?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

If my hon. Friend will send particulars of the cases which he has in mind to my right hon. Friend he will be happy to consider them.

Mr. REES

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that I have tried to represent the case during second reading and resolutions Debates?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I am afraid I have not followed the hon. Gentleman's speeches.

Mr. REES

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is no omission, for I have not been able on any occasion to bring the case forward?
