HC Deb 07 July 1909 vol 7 c1193
Captain CRAIG

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the fact that peat was not to be classed as a mineral under the Finance Bill, he could state if half-formed coal would also be exempted?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I understand that many æons must elapse before half-formed coal can have any value as coal, and in these circumstances the hon. Member's question is hardly a practical one.

Captain CRAIG

May I ask whether peat is a vegetable or a mineral?
