HC Deb 07 July 1909 vol 7 cc1190-1
Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Education if the Board ceases to pay for services rendered under section 1 (2) (d) of the Elementary School Teachers Superannuation Act, 1898, when the teacher's certificate expires, or when the teacher retires after having kept on after the certificate has expired for temporary duty?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Runciman)

I am not clear as to the meaning of the hon. Member's question, but, perhaps, it will be sufficient for me to refer him to the last four lines of sub-section (5) of section 1 of the Act, which provides that "no service, after the teacher attains the age of 65 years shall be recorded service for the purpose either of contribution to the Deferred Annuity Fund or of determining the amount of any allowance under this Act."

Mr. STANIER

Can he answer the first part of the question if he cannot answer both?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am afraid my answer must apply to the whole question, as I think they hang together.
