HC Deb 05 July 1909 vol 7 c803
Mr. FELL

asked if the necessary sheltered harbours for the anchorage of floating docks requiring great depth of water are available on the East Coast of England or Scotland; and, if so, at what places?

Mr. McKENNA

A floating dock can be berthed in several of the rivers and harbours on the East Coast of England and Scotland. In some cases dredging would be necessary.

Mr. FELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the last part of the question, and state at what place?

Mr. McKENNA

In several of the rivers. I cannot undertake to give the precise places.

Mr. FELL

Is the Admiralty constructing floating docks without having made preparations for the places?

Mr. McKENNA

They will not be ready for a minimum period of 18 months or two years, and in the course of that period there will be ample time to find the requisite home for the docks.
