HC Deb 05 July 1909 vol 7 c808
Captain CRAIG

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state when he proposes to announce particulars of his scheme for imposing a countervailing Customs duty on minerals imported from foreign countries to equalise the additional duty imposed on British minerals under the Finance Bill?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

My right hon. Friend does not propose to introduce any such scheme.

Captain CRAIG

Are we to understand that the home trade is to be crippled in favour of the foreign importers?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

If the hon. Gentleman understands that he 'will understand the facts incorrectly.
