§ Mr. ASHLEYasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the case of the man Pole, a Russian subject, who was deported after conviction in this country in 1906, convicted at the Central Criminal Court on the 23rd June, 1909, and again sentenced to be deported; whether inquiries have been made as to the manner of this man's return to this country; and whether steps will be taken to prevent his further reappearance?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. H. Gladstone)I am aware of this case. I have not been able to obtain trustworthy information as to the manner of the alien's return to the United Kingdom. Every effort is made at the immigration ports to detect such persons; but failing that, the utmost that can be done is to prosecute and punish them for contravention of the Order when they are discovered here, and to send them again out of the country.
