HC Deb 19 August 1909 vol 9 c1519
Mr. HUNT

asked the President of the Local Government Board what is the length of time, after a person has made the first application for an old age pension, before he or she is entitled to begin receiving it?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. John Burns)

The date at which an old age pension becomes payable depends on the date, not of the application, but of the decision of the local pension committee. Where it is granted it commences to accrue in ordinary cases on the first Friday after the claim has been decided upon by the committee.

Mr. HUNT

Not after the first application?

Mr. BURNS

No, after the decision.
