HC Deb 19 August 1909 vol 9 cc1530-1
Mr. ROBERT HAREOURT

asked the Prime Minister if His Majesty's Government have come to any decision as to the possibility of making a grant towards the cost of Lieutenant Shackleton's South Pole expedition, in view of its value and importance and the heavy personal liabilities which he incurred in connection with it?

The PRIME MINISTER

In view of the considerations referred to by my hon. Friend, the Government have decided to recommend Parliament to make a grant of £20,000 in aid of the expenditure incurred by the British Antaretic Expedition.
