§ Mr. MOOREasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he is aware that the demand made upon the county council of Galway for the cost of extra police amounts to £13,809; that the county council's account is overdrawn to the extent of £20,000; and if the Government intend to remit or modify the amount of their demand?
§ The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)The outstanding claims against the Galway county council for extra police amount to £10,804. I am informed that the council's bank account is overdrawn by over £18,000, but this is no doubt due to the fact that the rates for the half year ending 30th September, which usually amount to about £35,000, are practically all collected in August and September. The answer to the concluding paragraph of the question is in the negative.
§ Mr. MOOREMay I ask the right hon. Gentleman, considering that this extra ex- 632 pense for extra police has been incurred through the policy of the Government in this county, will he reconsider the matter?
§ Mr. BIRRELLNo, Sir.
