HC Deb 11 August 1909 vol 9 cc388-9
Sir EDWARD TENNANT

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the fact that differences of opinion exist as to the yield of the Land Taxes and the cost of collecting them, including the cost of valuation, he will propose the appointment of a Select Committee of this House to take expert evidence on these points?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

I do not think that a Select Committee would be in any better position than the Government for making this estimate. But perhaps my hon. Friend will suspend his judgment until he has heard the statement that I am about to make this afternoon.
