HC Deb 03 August 1909 vol 8 cc1692-3
Mr. MACKARNESS (for Mr. George Gooch)

asked whether, under the new measure promulgated by the Egyptian Government, suspected persons placed under police supervision will have an opportunity of answering the charges against them before any punitive action is taken?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

Before any person can be placed under police supervision in virtue of the measure referred to, he must be cited to appear before a Commission composed of the Mudir or Governor of the Province, the President of the Native Court, the Native Chef du Parquet, and two Notables. The Commission will hear witnesses, and the accused will be heard in his defence. He will be allowed legal assistance.
