HC Deb 03 August 1909 vol 8 c1707
Mr. MIDDLEMORE

asked whether contracts for Chilian mutton have been accepted for the Army; and, if so, whether, to enable this to be done, the words English and Colonial have been struck out of the contract form by the present Government, although previously expressly included?

Mr. HALDANE

I am not aware of any contracts for Chilian mutton for the Army. The specification for ration meat does not limit the source of supply of frozen mutton.

Mr. J. D. REES

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that soldiers fight better if fed on English beef and Welsh mutton?

Mr. HALDANE

I have my doubts.
