HC Deb 27 April 1909 vol 4 cc262-3

Order for second reading read.

Motion made and Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a second time."

Mr. DENIS KILBRIDE

I am glad that my hon. Friend the Member for Carlow does not intend to persist in his opposition to this Bill. I only rise for the purpose of saying that those who promote this Bill understood that the Member for Carlow was simply doing his duty by his Constituents, that it was his Constituents who were forcing him to oppose this Bill as far as he has opposed it; and that those who promote the Bill nor those who live in the district through which this railway will be constructed quite understand the position into which my hon. Friend was forced, I believe very much against his own desire and his own personal will, and that we thoroughly understand the position he has taken up. I take this public opportunity of assuring my hon. Friend the Member for Carlow that nobody either in Kildare or Queen's County, nobody who is concerned in any way with the success of this railway, has anything to say which would be injurious to him. We thoroughly recognise his position, and we thank him for having withdrawn any further opposition.

Read a second time, and committed.
