§ Mr. LONSDALEasked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1652 whether he is aware that the Commissioners of National Education in Ireland have intimated that monitors in their last year in 1911 must take a language in addition to English; whether, having regard to the fact that many managers and parents are opposed to the teaching of Irish, and in rural districts there are no facilities for teaching a modern European language, it is intended to enforce this rule and, if so, what provision will be made for supplying the deficiency in the number of monitors which must result from it?
§ Mr. BIRRELLAs regards the first part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to a question on the same subject asked on behalf of the hon. Member for North Armagh on the 5th inst. The Commissioners do not anticipate that any deficiency in the supply of monitors is likely to result from the proposed rule.
