§ Sir CHARLES DILKEasked whether the conditions laid down in the Note of July 23rd, 1906, for the evacuation of Crete by the International troops had been fulfilled by the establishment of a Cretan gendarmerie and militia, the restoration of order and tranquillity, and the protection of the Mussulman population, so that the evacuation of the island could be effected in July next, in accordance with the Declaration of the Powers to the Cretan people on 22nd May, 1908?
§ Mr. McKINNON WOODThe answer is in the affirmative, but the right hon. Baronet will recognise that the evacuation of the island by the Powers will be dependent, not only upon the present situation, but also upon the maintenance of satisfactory conditions up to the date referred to.
