HC Deb 07 April 1909 vol 3 c1156
Mr. BOWERMAN

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether any representations have been made to the United States Government regarding the importation into the port of London on 2nd February of a consignment of diseased foreign meat, the boxes containing same bearing an official label indicating that the meat had been inspected and passed by the American authorities as being in sound condition; and, if so, will he state the result of such representations and the name of the firm exporting the diseased meat?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. John Burns)

Particulars as regards this meat have been supplied to the representative in this country of the United States Department of Agriculture, at the request of that Department, for the purpose of inquiry in that Department. In these circumstances I have not thought it necessary that formal representations should be made to the United States Government on the subject, or to ascertain the name of the firm of exporters.
