Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, what is the number of county councils to whom compulsory powers to acquire land under the Small Holdings Act, 1907, have been granted; can he give a list of such councils; and which of them have exercised the powers?
§ The TREASURER of the HOUSEHOLD (Sir E. Strachey)The following county councils have either made Compulsory Orders or given notice of their intention to do so, namely:—Cambridge, Devon, Gloucester, Huntingdon, Salop, Soke of Peterborough, Warwick, Carmarthen, Cornwall, Dorset, Leicester, Lincoln (Kesteven), Monmouth, Norfolk, Northampton, Northumberland, York (East Riding). Orders have been confirmed by the Board in the case of the eight counties first named. We have no reason to believe 915 that the councils either have not or will not put the Orders in force at the earliest possible moment.
