HC Deb 01 April 1909 vol 3 c478
Mr. REES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, during the recent riots at Guntur, the sub-collector, Mr. Kersharp, left the scene of the riot for a comparatively distant place, leaving his subordinates to face the rioters; and, if so, what notice has been taken of the conduct of this gentleman?

Mr. BUCHANAN

The Secretary of State has no official information as to the conduct of the officer in question. He has no doubt that the Government of Madras will take any action that may be necessary.
