HC Deb 01 April 1909 vol 3 cc490-1
Mr. NEWDEGATE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in face of the amount of unemployment in this country, he will consider the feasibility of putting a tax on every person of foreign extraction employed in the United Kingdom who has not become a naturalised British subject?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hobhouse)

My right hon. Friend does not see his way to accept this suggestion.

Mr. NEWDEGATE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that there are a large number of these people employed in this country at the present moment?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I do not think I am.
