HC Deb 01 April 1909 vol 3 cc477-8
Mr. JOHN ROBERTSON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he was aware that in the native courts of Egypt the law costs, especially as regards execution of judgments, were oppressively heavy; and whether, seeing that these courts were large earners of revenue, and that the Egyptian State revenue for 1908 shows a large surplus, he would urge upon the Egyptian Government the propriety of reducing the costs in question?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir Edward Grey)

I have received no information respecting complaints on this subject, but the same considerations would apply as are stated in my answer to the next question.
