HC Deb 29 October 1908 vol 195 c468
LORD R. CECIL (Marylebone, E.)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the nuisance caused, particularly in quiet professional neighbourhoods, by such street noises as the whistling for motor cabs; and whether the Government propose to take any steps to remedy this grievance.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) I am aware that the whistling for motor and other cabs is in some districts a considerable nuisance, but, on the other hand, the system is a convenience to the public. The police have no power to stop the whistling, but the Commissioner is considering whether any change can be suggested which will mitigate the annoyance.
