BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the £54,000 spent on the salvage of the "Gladiator" is to be met by savings on other items; and whether he can now state if the vessel is to be repaired or whether she is to be replaced, as was done in the case of the two destroyers lost this year.
§ MR. MCKENNAThe question of meeting the cost of the salvage of the "Gladiator" is receiving careful consideration. As regards the other part of the Question, it has already been stated in this House in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Fareham, that the decision of the future of the "Gladiator" would be come to when the estimated cost of repair was known.
