HC Deb 14 October 1908 vol 194 cc298-9
MR. WEDGWOOD

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any revenue is derived from land in the northern territories of the Gold Coast; whether there is still an annual deficit on the administration of the northern territories; and whether he will take steps to find out if the system of land tenure and taxation working successfully in Northern Nigeria could be introduced into the northern territories of the Gold Coast also.

COLONEL SEELY

No revenue is derived from land in the northern territories of the Gold Coast. There is an annual deficit, which is made good from the revenues of the Gold Coast. The difficulties in the way of introducing the Northern Nigeria system into these territories were explained in the Answer given to a similar Question by my hon. friend on the 6th February last.
