HC Deb 12 October 1908 vol 194 c39
LOED EDMUND TALBOT (Sussex, Chichester)

May I ask the Prime Minister whether the Government will introduce at an early date legislation for the repeal of such statutory enactments affecting Roman Catholics as place them in a disadvantageous and inferior position as compared with other religious bodies in this country?

MR. WILLIAMREDMOND (Clare, E.)

Is it not a fact that a Bill far this purpose, removing these disabilities from Roman Catholics, has been introduced for many years into this House by a private Member sitting on the Nationalist Benches? May I ask, if such a Bill be re-introduced, whether the Government will support it, and give facilities far its passing?

MR. ASQUITH

I will ask the noble Lord and the hon. Member to put the Questions on the Paper, when I will give them due consideration.

MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

I beg to give notice that I will put on the Paper the Question the Prime Minister asks me. At the same time, in accordance with the notice I have given for the 27th of this month, I will ask leave to introduce a Bill to remove the disabilities which affect the Roman Catholic population.
