HC Deb 30 November 1908 vol 197 c1084
MR. C. B. HARMSWORTH (Worcestershire, Droitwich)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that foreign prison-made carpets are imported into this country; and what steps are being taken by the Board of Trade to give effect in the case of carpets to the provisions of the Foreign Prison-Made Goods Acts of 1897.

MR. CHURCHILL

The Board of Trade are not aware of any importations of the nature referred to by my hon. friend. In order to enable action to be taken in a case of this kind, it is necessary for the Commissioners of His Majesty's Customs to be furnished by the complainant with satisfactory proof that the articles in question were actually manufactured in prison.
