NIELDI beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state the number of Second Division clerks in the Civil Service throughout the United Kingdom promoted to the First Division on or since 1st April, 1908; how many of them sustained loss of salary on such promotion, and in what offices these were located; how many of them sustained no such loss, and in what offices these were located; and the like particulars of promotions between 1st April, 1907 and 1st April, 1908.
§ MR. HOBHOUSEI have not the information asked for, and the trouble involved in the preparation of such a statement would appear to be out of proportion to the results obtained.
