HC Deb 23 November 1908 vol 196 c1801
MR. J. P. FARRELL (Longford, N.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General whether any further progress has been made by his Department in the matter of extending the trunk telephone service from Dublin or Sligo to Longford, and similar towns, on the Midland and Great Western Railway system.

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

I am in correspondence with the local authorities and others on the subject of an extension of the trunk telephone system to Sligo, Mullingar and other places on the Midland and Great Western Railway system on guarantee terms. If an extension to Mullingar is found practicable, the question of a further extension to Longford can then be considered.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

Did not Mr. Hanbury promise this extension seven or eight years ago?

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

I believe he promised it on certain reasonable conditions.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

When may we expect a definite answer?

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

I cannot say anything further at present.
