I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland how many girls' schools received grants in the present year from the funds administered by the Commissioners of Intermediate Education, and how many girls presented themselves at the various examinations of the Intermediate Board.

The Commissioners of Intermediate Education inform me that no school grants have as yet been paid in respect of the examinations in the present year. The number of girls who presented themselves in 1908 for examination in the preparatory grade was 921; in the junior grade, 1,837; in the middle grade, 678; and in the senior grade, 211; making a total of 3,647.
