MR. HAZLETON (Galway, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will state the number of the extra police in County Galway and the amount charged for them against the county council; the number transferred from other counties and what counties they have been transferred from, as well as the number sent from the depot in Dublin; what is the legal quota allowed for the county and when if was filled up: whether any of the cost of the men required to fill it has been charged to the comity council; and whether any expenses for extra police were incurred by the county council be ore the quota was filled up.

The extra force in County Galway consists of one head constable and 345 sergeants and constables, and they are charged for at the following rates, viz.: Head constables £43 6s. per man per annum; sergeants and constables, £34 9s. 3d. per man per annum. The amount payable and due by the county council for extra police in respect of the year ended 30th September. 1908 is £8,055 10s. 9d. When the county
