§ MR. GEORGE ROBERTS (Norwich)To ask the President of the Local Govern- 1370 ment Board whether he has received an application for a grant from the Croydon Distress Committee; whether he is aware that the financial resources of this committee are nearly exhausted, and that, consequently, it is only finding employment for a small number of men; and whether his Board will sanction the grant asked for without further delay.
(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I have received an application in this case, and I informed the town council on the 4th instant that if they would carry out a proposed improvement scheme at Addiscombe Road I should be prepared to give £1,000 to the distress committee towards the cost of unskilled labour to be supplied by the committee. I am ready to make the payment at once on hearing from the town council.
