§ MR. FELLI beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of income received from capital invested abroad as shown by the Income-Tax Returns for each of the separate financial years from 1900–1901 to 1907–8; and if he can give similar figures showing the amount of income remitted abroad to persons who have capital invested in this country.
§ MR. HOBHOUSEStatistics of that portion of the income received from British capital invested abroad which can be identified from the Income-Tax Returns for the years 1900–1 to 1906–7 are to be found on page 183 of the 51st Report of the Board of Inland Revenue [Cd. 4226]. For 1907–8 the figures are not yet available. I may also draw the hon. Member's attention to the text on pages 182 and 183 of the Report, where it is explained that a large amount of income from abroad cannot be identified.
