SCHWANN (Manchester, N.)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been drawn to the reduction of the educational facilities hitherto afforded Indian children born in Natal; whether the new regulations will have the effect of summarily dismissing pupils over the age of fourteen who have been attending the higher-grade Indian schools; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take.
§ COLONEL SEELYThe Secretary of State has no information as to the regulations mentioned by my hon. friend, but inquiry is being made as to them, and as to any reduction of educational facilities afforded to Indians born in Natal. The amount provided for Indian education on the Estimates for this year is approximately the same as in previous years.
