§ MR. FELLTo ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if applications for pensions have been received from more than half 514 of the inhabitants in certain of the villages in the Highlands of Scotland; and if there is any certain means of ascertaining the age of these applicants.
(Answered by Mr. Hobhouse.) My right hon. friend has no means of knowing what proportion of the inhabitants of the villages in the Highlands have applied for pensions. Some difficulty has arisen in ascertaining the age of some of these applicants, but the Board of Inland Revenue are making arrangements to meet it.
